Spanish passport for Spanish deportees
In February 2014, the government of Spain passed a bill enabling the descendants of Jews that were expelled from Spain to receive Spanish citizenship, without renouncing the citizenship of the country in which they reside.
This amendment of the law will grant citizenship to the applicants automatically, regardless of where they reside, however on the condition that they prove their status by means of family names, language, heritage or a connection to Spanish customs. According to estimates, approximately 3.5 million Jews who are now eligible to receive Spanish citizenship are at issue.
